There are many different kinds of vein and vascular disorders that have a variety of causes and symptoms. Learn more about vein conditions:
Varicose Veins: A varicose vein is a larger, sometimes bulging vein. The condition is usually the result of problems with valves within the veins of the leg.
Spider Veins: Spider Veins are formed by the dilation of a small group of blood vessels located close to the surface of the skin. Although they can appear anywhere on the body, spider veins are most commonly found on the face and legs.
Reticular Veins: Reticular veins are formed by larger veins that are located deeper in the skin’s surface. They are usually blue or purple in color, and frequently feed areas of spider veins which are closer to the surface.
The treatment of venous disease is vastly different from traditional surgical treatment options of the past. With breakthroughs in minimally invasive treatments, patients of Spectrum Dermatology enjoy the many effective out-patient procedures while providing immediate relief from their venous disease symptoms.
Treatment for vein disease will depend on a variety factors, including the underlying condition and history. With the overarching goal being to improve blood flow, the first step is to be evaluated and we’ll identify a treatment plan that is right for your vein condition. Possible treatment plans include:
Conservative Treatments: Compression stockings, weight loss, exercise, medications, and more.
Sclerotherapy: Sclerotherapy involves using a small needle to inject medicine called a sclerosing agent into the vein’s interior wall. This medication causes the vein to become sticky and seal shut, allowing the vein to collapse and disappear.
Radiofrequency Ablation: Radiofrequency ablation represents a minimally invasive procedure which uses radiofrequency energy, delivered through a catheter in a vein, to close the vein from the inside.
Stab Phlebectomy: Also known as “ambulatory phlebectomy”, this technique is used when varicose veins are too large and removed via a very small incision.
There are various symptoms, causes, and vein diagnostic tools available to the Vein Experts at Spectrum Dermatology that will help treat your condition. By examining the signs and asking about symptoms of the disorder; such as the presence of varicose veins, swelling in the legs, skin changes, or skin ulcers; the diagnosis for the underlying causes of vein disease is possible and a treatment plan is developed for your particular situation.
