Dermal Filler Injections

Everyone loses volume in their face, neck, and hands with age. Fat and muscle in these areas naturally fade, which leads to skin that looks aged. Our bodies also produce less collagen and elastin, key ingredients in young and supple skin. The result is skin that looks loose and saggy. Side effects of lost volume can include “veiny hands,” wrinkles, and undesirable hollow cheeks and undereye bags. Dermal fillers can rejuvenate the face and hands by replacing volume, plumping the lips, and contouring hollow areas. Simultaneously, wrinkles are reduced and skin looks instantly more youthful. There are a variety of dermal fillers available, all with minimal downtime. Spectrum Dermatology works with clients to customize a dermal filler treatment plan to achieve your goals.

Spectrum also participates in manufacturer rewards programs so that you earn points and receive discounts on future treatments. Allergan is the maker of popular medications such as Botox and Juvederm, and you can earn points through their Brilliant Distinctions Program. Another popular program is led by Galderma who makes Restylane, Dysport, Sculptra and more and has a program called Aspire Rewards. Versa Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers offer safe and immediate results when it comes to restoring volume to the face—or creating it where it never existed. The latest addition to the dermal filler family is Versa, a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler that offers long-lasting results. Versa was designed to be injected into soft tissue to “fill in” facial lines and wrinkles, including in the nasolabial folds between the nose and mouth. This HA filler can dramatically improve the appearance of even the deepest facial creases and wrinkles, making it a popular option for clients looking for dramatic, lasting results.

Versa is unique because of its proprietary manufacturing process, as well as having a one of a kind formula that causes a very uniform particle during injection. HA already occurs naturally in the body, making it a safe and proven dermal filler ingredient. The results of the dermal filler Versa can last up to one year, which is significantly longer than many other HA fillers on the market. It’s the perfect choice for someone who wants wrinkles and lines to vanquish without having to worry about touch-up sessions for a full year.

Juvederm Volbella

One of the latest additions to the dermal filler family is Juvederm Volbella. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2016, Spectrum Dermatology was one of the first clinics in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area to offer this popular treatment. Volbella is part of the Juvederm brand and designed specifically to improve lip border and shape without over-plumping. Lines and wrinkles in and around the lips are lessened, including “smoker’s lines,” allowing lipstick to be applied smoother. Volbella can also be used to treat acne scarring. It is made with a gel and includes hyaluronic acid to retain moisture in the injection site. Results last up to one year.

Benefits of Juvederm Volbella
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles in and around the lips
  • Lips that look naturally fuller and smoother without any risk of over-filling
  • Easier application of lipstick
  • Volbella can last up to 12 months
  • Volbella was created exclusively for the lip region, but can also treat acne scars

Volbella is unique thanks to Vycross technology. It is a patented type of crosslinking that leads to increased lift and long-lasting results. The days of duck lips are over, and most clients want lips that look naturally fuller. One study found that the vast majority of Volbella clients were still happy with their results a full year after treatment. Most lip fillers last around six months, which is a great timeframe for those “testing out” a new look. However, if you know you want natural-looking results that last, Volbella might be the answer.

As an added perk, Volbella is easier to inject thanks to the gel component and an extra-fine needle. The levels of hyaluronic acid are less compared to other dermal fillers, making water absorption less common. This means less swelling and a natural pout.

How Does Juvederm Work?

Juvederm fillers are the only fillers available that use hyaluronic acid in a proprietary way via innovative manufacturing of a smooth gel. This gel is easily accepted by the body and leads to an organic look and touch. Juvederm can help with wrinkle reduction, improved volume in the face and lips, and is known for looking completely natural. There is little recovery time, and clients say the injection is easier and faster than other dermal fillers.

Thanks to the makeup of Juvederm, dermatologists and injection nurses have even more control over injections—which means a result that is tailored to your skin goals. Juvederm is part of the Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions Program, which offers big savings to clients. Upon joining the free program, you are rewarded with bonus points worth $25. Botox is also part of the rewards program, and a fantastic complement to dermal fillers.

Restylane and Perlane

Both Restylane and Perlane also use hyaluronic fillers, the most common type of dermal filler on the market. It is an ingredient that occurs naturally in the body, but also lessens with age like collagen and elastin. Hyaluronic acid can reduce lines and wrinkles, shape and plump lips, and fill in hollowed areas of the face. There is no risk of rejecting hyaluronic acid since it is a naturally-occurring component in the body.

Restylane and Perlane – What’s The Difference?

Restylane and Perlane are very similar, but Perlane is denser. Perlane is recommended for deeper injections that require more support at the lower levels of the skin. It is sometimes dubbed a “base filler” and can be used as a foundation for less dense fillers like Restylane and Juvederm. The undereye area is one of the most common injection sites for Perlane. Both types of fillers result in skin that is smoother, which can help minimize scarring.

All hyaluronic fillers are administered using a quick injection directly into the treatment site. The injected gel bonds with the body’s water molecules, which means immediate results. However, any injection might have temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, slight pain, or bruising. These disappear shortly and can be easily covered during the healing process.

Galderma, the manufacturer of fillers and neurotoxins such as Restylane, Dysport, Sculptra and more also have a free points program called Aspire Rewards that you might want to learn more about.

Voluma XC

Voluma is the Juvederm product designed specifically to lift and contour the cheeks. “Fallen apples” are often one of the first signs of aging, along with undereye bags. However, many clients desire contoured cheeks not only to replace lost volume and look younger, but also to achieve the desired high cheekbone look. Voluma XC can achieve what no amount of expert makeup contouring can, and can last up to two years. It is considered a semi-permanent solution.

How Voluma XC Works

Voluma XC is a deep injection, similar to Perlane. It is available for adults aged 21 or older, and can instantly replace lost volume in the cheeks due to aging—or provide clients with the high cheekbones they’ve always wanted. “Midface volume loss” not only makes clients instantly look younger, but can also improve skin tone, texture, and laxity. Lack of cheek volume can also cause deep lines when smiling, making clients look even older than they are. Remove gauntness and look younger instantly with Voluma XC.

Sculptra can be used in a wide variety of facial sites, and is created to improve lost facial fat by nourishing collagen production. The most common injection sites are the cheeks. More collagen means more skin fullness, firmness, and youthfulness. Unlike other types of fillers, Sculptra can take up to six weeks to show full results because it does not inject a gel or other product into the body. Instead, it relies on stimulating collagen production for results. However, the results are subtle and genuinely natural. Most clients require multiple sessions every six weeks. The Sculptra ingredients include poly-L-lactic acid, which is safe and synthetic.
