Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments

The intense pulsed light treatment, or IPL, as performed at Spectrum Dermatology, with offices in both Scottsdale and Phoenix, is a light therapy procedure that can restore your face’s natural beauty by removing the effects of weather and aging, replacing them with smooth, youthful skin. Your face can regain much of its youthful beauty by having years of aging and the ravages of weather minimized, and wrinkles, blemishes, and large pores can be reduced or eliminated.

IPL can be used on the hands, neck, and chest as well as the face, and produces a result that feels as if your skin had been lifted but is a completely non-invasive procedure with no recovery time and results that can last up to a year. It is a skin rejuvenation procedure that can dramatically improve your appearance without expensive surgery.

What To Expect During Your IPL Treatment

During an IPL treatment, a series of light pulses will be directed at the specific area to be treated after having been adjusted for your individual skin color and type. The light will be changed to heat energy after hitting the skin and will affect the vessels or pigment that are responsible for the condition being treated. The treatment usually runs from fifteen to thirty minutes, after which you may resume normal activities. There is usually no discomfort, but redness sometimes occurs for a few hours.

Number of IPL Treatments

A physician at one of our Scottsdale or Phoenix locations will review your case with you and help you decide the appropriate number of treatments to provide the results you want. The number of treatments depends on which conditions are being treated and their severity, but two to five treatments spaced three weeks apart are common.

Post IPL Treatment Care

Some redness may appear in the area that was treated and may last a day, but this can be covered with makeup. Any tattoos in the area being treated may become lighter, and the skin might become darker and peel for one to two weeks. You should use a sunblock and avoid direct exposure to the sun after receiving the intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment.
