Ruby Laser is Quite a Gem

Laser skin treatments are highly effective, and the Ruby Laser is one of the best on the market. Spectrum Dermatology recommends this laser treatment for hyperpigmentation and other skin discolorations. Every laser offers a specific wavelength, fluence, and pulse characteristic. Ruby is a solid-state laser with a synthetic ruby as a laser medium. Ruby features a deep red light with a strong wavelength that creates short pulses of high-intensity laser beams.

The Many Uses Of A Ruby Laser

Ruby Laser can be used to treat a number of complaints, including age spots, freckles, and some moles. Pigmented lesions that are brown, tan, or black in color may be treated with this laser. Most clients need between one and six sessions to achieve optimal results. However, eight weeks are needed between sessions.

In some cases, Ruby Laser may be used to remove excess body hair. When the hair follicle is targeted, it retards growth and makes the hair fall out. How many sessions you’ll need depends on the color and density of the hair. However at least three treatments are usually needed, and clients must wait between four and eight weeks per session. The best candidate has fair skin and dark hair.

Melasma, a type of pigmentary disorder, can respond well to Ruby Laser. However, the research behind melasma and this laser is still in the early stages. There is one study that showed low-dose laser treatments over six sessions with two weeks between sessions were effective in patients with melasma.

Some clients depend on Ruby Laser to remove unwanted tattoos, though tattoo removal is not offered at Spectrum Dermatology. Blue and black ink respond best to Ruby Laser because they can easily absorb the red light. Green ink can sometimes be treated, but yellow and red ink doesn’t work well with Ruby Laser. About five sessions are necessary for tattoo removal, with three weeks in between sessions.
