26 Jan Whoa Is Me…Stress Related Skin Problems
When stress is ongoing, prolonged and chronic, be advised, Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne and Rosacea can show up at a moment’s notice. Rapidly growing tissue, such as the skin, can be a barometer as to how stress is affecting your body. Many skin problems are caused and/or exacerbated by undue stress in your life. Some of those conditions include:
- Eczema – atopic dermatitis is a red rash many times appearing all over the body. It can be accompanied with severe itching until the skin breaks and bleeds. The cause of eczema is still unknown. However, we do know that stress worsens the outbreak which ultimately leads to more anxiety over the spread of the rash.
- Psoriasis – this is an autoimmune disease that causes an increase in cell production showing up as bright patches. They are painful and itchy. It is an inflammatory disease, so stress plays a significant factor in the severity of the outbreak.
- Acne – with acne, it’s all about hormones, in particular, cortisol, which when stressed, the amount released in the body increases. This process triggers glands beneath the skin that triggers oil production, ultimately causing a nasty acne outbreak.
- Rosacea – Typically, rosacea presents itself on the face and neck area and is chronic. But, again, the rosacea is worsened when anxiety and stress are added to the mix.
Some other skin related problems that are stress related include: hives, seborrheic dermatitis and fever blisters. Stress affects the whole body, but the skin reflects the tension in your body on the outside of your body.
